Silverfish

Silverfish

Silverfish, or else little fish, is a wingless insect of the Thysanura order. We call it silverfish because of its silver color and because its movement resembles that of a fish.

Silverfish are usually found in damp places such as bathrooms, near pipes, in basements, in attics, etc.

Adults reach 1.2-2.5 cm, live for 2-8 years, lay eggs several times within the year and are among the most common insects in homes.

They damage objects like books or wallpapers because they feed mainly on sugar and starch (bookbindings, glue, paper, clothes, dandruff, carpets, paintings, photographs, hair, etc.).

They also feed on dust mites, they are nocturnal insects and their speed allows them to escape their natural predators ( spiders, cockroaches, centipedes, etc.).
